Shield Law Fails Again

Shield Law legislation is starting to get to be like bills for DC statehood. Yet again Congress failed to take action on The Free Flow of Information Act.

The Wall Street Journal notes: "Media organizations have lobbied heavily in favor of the bill, citing numerous instances of reporters subpoenaed and in some cases jailed for refusing to testify about information received from confidential sources. A coalition of 66 media organizations and companies sent a letter to senators June 21 in support of the legislation."

Of course, THEY'VE lobbied for it because the current version of the bill amounts to an "affirmative action" program for large newspapers at the expenses of independent journalists (sometimes known as "bloggers).
