Project for Excellence in Journalism roundtable on future of online media
I participated in an online roundtable for the Project for Excellence in Journalism last summer with Dan Gillmor, Jay Hamilton from Duke, Lee Rainie from Pew Internet & American Life Project, and Jeff Jarvis. We were asked to dicuss the future of online media and what may expect to see in the near future.
The real opportunity for traditional media organizations is to leverage the Internet as a low-cost marketing platform for their “news product†and as a low-cost means of gathering and distributed content from bloggers and other citizen media outlets.
Dan and Jeff sounded pretty down on whether traditional media outlets are going to ever be able to shake off their blinders.
