Poynter Publishes "Evolving Guidebook for Online Ethics"

Bob Steele,

Poynter collected some of the best minds in online journalism to write a set of guidelines for the often-haphazard world of online ethics.

As one of the participants, let me first say I could not agree with Bob more - that the world of online ethics is haphazard.

Our charge at the beginning of the conference was to avoid telling people what to DO and focus on helping the figure out what questions to ASK - to develop a series of questions that journalists could utilize as a protocol in developing policies that made sense for the news organization and the community they served.

As a big proponent of getting our work onto a Wiki, I hope folks will not only read the report but visit the Poynter Wiki and make some edits. To Bob Steele's point in his article, this report is meant to be the BEGINNING of a conversation not the END.

Towards that end I have enabled comments on this post.
