MBA Technology Committee - We Need You!
As noted here, the MBA's new site is built using Drupal, an open-source php/mySql content managment system. Our accounting system is built using the PayPal API. We make heavy use of RSS and aggregators. The site has not been "prettified" but the plan is for enhanced design elemments and graphics.
If you have expertise in web development, site design, web hosting or any other IT skill, we would like you to become part of the MBA's Tech Committee. Specific areas of interest are expertise with Drupal, mysql, graphic design.
This site serves several purposes.
At its core, it serves as the organizational backbone of the MBA, allowing for the easy dissemination of information through blogs, RSS, and group emails. It also provides the ability to collect member dues, and will ultimately assist in any revenue-generating programs the organization embarks on.
Through the course of the Libby Trial coverage, the site has started to become a public destination to some degree. Coverage of the trial through our edited feed page has more than quadrupled traffic to the site, and we intend to use this model for similar projects in the future.
Finally, the site has enabled the Associated Press partnership to develop, through the RSS aggregation component. There are already multiple future partnerships developing in this vein, and we hope to draw from mistakes and successes of the Libby coverage to build a pretty cutting-edge, unique news and information product.
We are in a prime position to leverage the best of web technologies because of our vast aggregated experience as bloggers. Member participation in the Tech Committee will allow these intiatives to come to a more rapid and robus fruition.
Tech Committee members will be listed in the left-hand rail, be enabled to post here to the IT blog and have representation on the MBA Board through the co-chairs of the Tech Committee (Lance Dutson, Alex Yuriev).
This post will be edited to reflect the changing needs of the Tech Committee; if you have ANY tech skills that the MBA might use please contact Lance Dutson at lance at mainecoastdesign dot com.
